Javier Viamontes, the Cuban ambassador in Addis Ababa and special envoy to the Summit of the African Union, had a fraternal meeting earlier this week with Ethiopia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Tesfaye Girma.

According to the website of the Cuban Foreign Ministry (www.cubaminrex.cu), both diplomats reviewed the state of bilateral relations, which they qualified as excellent, as well as the Caribbean nation’s extended cooperation in different African nations.

Girma highlighted the long history of friendship between his homeland and Cuba, and the way in which these fraternal bonds were sealed with the presence there of Cuban internationalists that defended the territorial integrity of Ethiopia.

For his part, Viamontes reiterated the gratitude of the people and Goverment of Cuba for Addis Ababa’s support of a resolution against Washington’s almost 50-year-old economic, financial and commercial blockade of Cuba that is overwhelmingly approved by the UN General Assembly every year.

The moment was also opportune to talk about topics of mutual interest and to express the desire to continue strengthening ties between both countries.
